Helping Others Feel At Home

Verna Walesch lives in a one-bedroom apartment on the Shepherd of Grace campus with her Beta fish, Charlie.  Charlie is a typical fish; he spends his day swimming and eating.  Verna, on the other hand, is anything but typical.

As Shepherd of Grace's first tenant, Verna actively welcomes newcomers and helps them get settled.  She also encourages them to get involved in the numerous activities available at Shepherd of Grace.

"I want them to enjoy living here as much as I do," said Verna.

Verna left her previous apartment for the secure and carefree lifestyle at Shepherd of Grace.  Although Verna lives independently, she is able to take advantage of the housekeeping services and delicious meals, as well as the social and recreational programs.  That is, when she's not busy tending to other tenants.

"I visit the ladies who aren't able to get out much," said Verna.  "I enjoy the company, and I know they do, too."

Verna admits she would like more neighbors, so she continues on her campaign, promoting Shepherd of Grace apartments.

"I am very comfortable here.  I don't have any worries because everything is taken care of for me," said Verna.

"This is home."
